Created by nomadic tribes in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, suzani were often gifted to grooms by their brides as part of wedding dowries. They were adorned with symbols for luck, long life and fertility and embroidered using tambour, basma, chain and kanda-khayol stitches.
