Vintage Maimani Kilim – Spatial

27,000

Maiman kilims originated from Northern Afghanistan. It is a multicoloured flat weave rug, hand-woven by the Turkmen tribe of the region. Symbolism and superstitions play a dominant role in the pattern choices and many of these kilims have a mixture of patterns depicting mountains, water, heroism and diamond shaped eyes to ward off evil.

Description

Popular amongst interior designers and collectors these tribal flatweaves are woven by semi-nomadic and nomadic tribes. Handwoven mostly by women in the tribe, these pieces follow no set design or pattern. They are made to scale using just the weavers eye and skill. This also helps make each rug truly unique, and an expression of the weaver?s own stories and creativity, with imperfections that add to the beauty.
