Product Details
The Ersari are one of the principal Turkman tribes of Central Asia, historically inhabiting regions that now form part of northern Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Their weaving tradition is marked by a strong tribal identity expressed through repeating motifs known as guls. Among these, the Filpaya, translated as ?elephant?s foot?, stands as a defining emblem. The Filpaya gul is large, octagonal, and assertive in outline. Its repeated presence across the carpet field creates a disciplined, almost architectural order. For the Ersari weaver, such motifs were not arbitrary decoration; they signified lineage, continuity, and belonging. Each carpet thus carries an implicit narrative of tribal heritage, woven into its very structure.
