Antique Samarkand – Pomegranates on Water

Price available on request

Samarkand is a popular town on the Silk Route. The carpets created in Samarkand from the 17th -19th century have been greatly influenced by invading superpowers, travelers, and traders passing through. These distinct differences can be seen in the pattern choices. Ranging from pomegrenates (more tribal motif) to the chinese vase pattern (more from Xinjiang), the Samarkand rugs truly stand apart.

Product Details

Woven by the skilled women of Kyrgyz, Uzbek tribes in and around Kashgar, Yarkand, and Khotan, these rugs were easily distinguishable for the use of different color tones as softer orange, pomegrenate reds and sometimes even lilac and pink. The beauty and intrigue of the Samarkands lie in the confluence of traditional Middle Eastern culture with those of the Chinese culture.
