Antique Persian Lilihan – Ceremonial

Price available on request

A hallmark of the antique lilihan carpet is its colour. Warm shade of red dominates the field, complemented by deep indigo with occasional accents of pale blue or muted yellow. Underfoot, the antique Lilihan offers a surface that is both substantial and inviting. The pile, typically clipped to a moderate height, balances comfort with clarity of design. With age, the wool develops a gentle softness that contributes to the carpet’s character without compromising its structural integrity.

Product Details

The Antique Persian Lilihan Carpet is a distinguished example of village weaving from the historic settlement of Lilihan, situated in the Arak region of central Persia. Woven during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Lilihan carpets were created primarily for Western export, yet they retained the integrity and character of Persian craftsmanship. Today, an antique Lilihan is admired for its lively drawing, distinctive palette, and enduring construction. Unlike the grand medallion carpets of larger urban workshops, the Lilihan tradition often favours an all-over floral design. Each antique Lilihan carries subtle distinctions in drawing and tone, reflecting the individuality of its weaver and the passage of time. These variations lend authenticity and ensure that no two examples are precisely alike.
