Antique Agra Jail – Epic Depiction

Price available on request

Antique Agra Jail Carpets occupy a unique niche between Persian court rugs and British colonial textiles. Their provenance—prison-woven under colonial oversight—imbues them with historical intrigue, while their execution in premium wool and refined motifs ensures enduring decorative appeal. Today, well-preserved examples are sought after by collectors and interior decorators for their combination of narrative depth, robust construction, and the gentle, time-worn beauty of their faded colourways.

Product Details

Originating in the late 19th century under British colonial administration, the Agra Jail Carpet was woven by skilled inmates of Agra’s colonial prison workshops. Established to occupy prisoners and harness local weaving traditions, these ateliers produced carpets destined for British residences, government buildings, and export markets, blending Persian design vocabulary with the rigour and scale demanded by colonial patrons.
