Woven on wooden looms, the Bessarabian kilims tend to have large floral patterns and bold color combinations. Post his travels to England, Peter the Great was enamored but the beautiful savonneri, aubusson and axminster rugs. He set up the Russian Imperial Tapestry factory to create such carpets for the Russian nobility. As demand grew, the production spread to villages, mostly in current Moldova and Romania. This region thereby came to be known for the Bessarabian rugs. This is a vintage piece made from this region and is a classic example of the beauty and spectacular elegance of these rugs.

Care instructions

- Blot immediately if there are any spills, and clean the spot with carbonated water and mild liquid soap
- Place furniture coasters under the legs of heavy furniture to avoid flattening the rug
