Vintage Balouch Kilim – Attached

Originating from eastern Persia and North-western Afghanistan, the Balouchi Kilims have traveled quite a distance to make their way into many homes. The beauty and appeal of flatweaves is unique and they clearly differentiate themselves from the floral rugs and even the more geometric tribal rugs.

This Balouch Kilim is made of 100% wool, however the tribes often used different animal wools depending on their livestock. Sheep, goat, camel – all mixed together and dyed using madder, indigo or cochineal to create vibrancy in color and uniformity in pattern. This particular piece is made of two pieces stitched together. Possibly due to the loom size or for a variety in pattern, these rugs are truly unique with high thresholds of design variation.
