Tribal Xinjiang Kilim Runner – Aqua
The Xinjiang region in China had its first mention in the 5th century when oil paintings from this region were first discovred and became popular along the silk route. Flat weaves and carpets soon followed and the region produced some spectacular pieces with Russian and European influences.

Description
Owing to the proximity of this region to the then Soviet Union, there were some interesting impacts on carpet and kilim weaving. Thr Russians, under the leadership of the Peter the Great, were starting to create textiles, art and artifacts, many of which were inspired by the European market. The color combination of this kilim for example is very aubusson french, however, the pattern is typical oriental.
