The city of Tabriz – presently northwest Iran, was the earliest capital of the Safavid dynasty. Known for their exemplary contribution to the arts, the reign of the Safavid dynasty represented the pinnacle of woven art in Iran. Tabriz rugs followed the highest technical standards and the most varied repertoire which is evident in the supple weave, rich color tones and intricate patterns.

Tabriz rugs had one the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality of materials used. The weavers produced tight densely-knotted structures and elaborate floral displays. These rugs were some of finest rugs that the workshops produced and were either commissioned by nobility or woven exclusively for carpet aficionados. The Carpet Cellar has acquired these antiques over the past 45 years and each piece has been selected for its relevance, lineage and condition.
