Product Details

Carpet weaving by prisoners of war emerged in the 16th century with the Mughal invasion. Akbar, who nurtured all forms of arts and craft, elevated carpet weaving to an art form. The British India company took this forward as it was highly lucrative to their economy and the worlds markets opened up for Indian carpets. Some of the better known centres were the Deccan, Agra, Amritsar and Lahore Jail.
