Product Details

Indian prisoners have been making carpets in jails ever since the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar, who introduced Persian carpet weaving as a way to reform Indian prisoners languishing in jails. Thus emerged a grand tradition of ‘Jail Rugs’, which went on to outshine the Persian Rugs they were inspired from. Such carpets are now collectors’ items for carpet connoisseurs.
