The beauty of this vintage rug lies in the use of clothing grade wool and natural dyes. The abrash caused in the carpet is testament to both these aspects. Tribal carpets were woven in villages where the wool was procured locally and sometimes from the weavers own livestock. Unlike chemical dyes, natural dyes react differently with every batch of wool thus giving a slightly different shade of the color. Over time, these colors react with the sunlight and change - thus causing an abrash.
