Persian Recreation - Hadji Jalili

  • Facebook Linked in Twitter Pinterest
  • Hadji Jalili was a very renowned weaver in the town of Tabrez in Iran and created carpets for imperial courts in the famous city of Tabrez. He was renowned for using subtle colour tones like gold, beige, ivory, pinks, greys etc. and created masterpieces that are desired by collectors and interior designers the world over. They used to make them using Kurk wool and the best of vegetable dyes in those days .This collection is trying to revive the exquisite high and low ‘Souf’ technique which is the play of textures in a combination of silk and wool where the pattern is made in silk pile that is higher and shiny while the wool part is lower. The matted texture creates an illusion of being three-dimensional and the relief work tries to create a view of the Garden of Paradise. The Persians believe humanity should live in harmony with nature, which is why most of the carpet themes and subjects revolve around various types of flora and fauna. It is an incredible revival of the renowned glory of the Hadji Jalili workshop, being done in a very modern and transitional way. The use of monotone and monochromatic colour combinations are in sync with modern times yet also have a sense of soul and are timeless as compared to other modern or ultramodern carpets.
