The popular Afghan carpets have a distinctive weaving technique, pattern and color choice. These tribes were usually surrounded by dry desert areas or barren mountains, which is why bright colors are used by many to add to their surroundings. The base and pile are made of soft lustrous wool and natural vegetable dyes are used for colors. Wool available here is very soft due to the herd being in higher altitude which results in better quality of wool with greater lustre and sheen. Carpets were used as an asset class for centuries in this region. They were made mostly for self use but also for barter to trade for other commodities.
